Four star rated Safari Lodge in a valley of indigenous bush at the northern boundary of Amakhala Game Reserve, offers the three-day Tuskers Package which, along with activities on Amakhala offers a game drive into Addo Elephant National Park.
African tribal design-inspired owners and artists, Mike and Justine Weeks’ meticulous attention to detail is reflected in the fine African beadwork and handcrafted designs that are evident throughout this prestigious lodge. This thatched lodge with its unique safari huts and signature stone-capped roof tops, offers all the comforts of a luxury lodge and is an undisturbed retreat where you can regenerate your soul and tune into the sounds of nature. The view from the safari huts and lounge area is of the waterhole where monkeys come to play and antelope and zebra to quench their thirst.
The Safari Lodge sleeps 24 people in 11 luxury suites complete with private plunge pools and separate lounge areas. Large beds draped with mosquito nets, sparkling wine on ice alongside a double bath filled with aromatherapy scented bubbles make this a favourite for honeymooners and the romantic at heart.
Take the N2 from Port Elizabeth to Grahamstown. Approximately 62 kilometres turn left on the R342 to Paterson. Approximately 5 kilometres turn left at the Safari Lodge signposted entrance.

Wildlife you are likely to see
On Amakhala Game Reserve’s 18 000 acres the animals that you are likely to encounter are: lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, monkeys, tortoise and plenty of antelope species. You might be lucky and see some of the more elusive and shy animals like hyena or bat eared fox.
This is your chance to be privileged enough to see the world famous African animals close up in their own habitat .The focus of the game drives is not only the large majestic beasts but also the humble smaller mammals, birds and insects which will leave you in awe.
The reserve hosts five of South Africa’s seven biomes, bushveld to savannah. For a change of pace relax on board the boat cruise while meandering lazily along the Bushman’s River.

- Meet at Reed Valley or Hlosi Game Lodge (depending on your booking arrangement) for orientation and welcome drinks.
- Enjoy a 3 hour Game drive through the reserve enjoying spectacular views and descending into the Bushman’s River Valley.
- During the game drive, a stop will be made where selected local drinks and snack will be served.
- A delicious authentic 2-course meal will be served at the lodge of departure after the Game drive.
- A river cruise along the Bushman’s River can be requested when a booking is made.
